Why decode a VIN before valuing a car?
Sellers describe cars generously. The VIN doesn’t. Position 10 encodes the model year, the first three characters identify the manufacturer and plant, and the middle section pins down the body, engine and restraint systems the car left the factory with. Two minutes with a VIN catches the “GT3” that’s actually a Carrera with a body kit, the “1989” car that’s really a 1990, and the import wearing a domestic badge.
